They say that beauty comes from the inside, and that's so true when it come to radiant, healthy looking skin.

A kiwi winter beings many of the fruits and veggies that are essential for skin health - they also contribute to a reduction in acne ... a great reason to get those teens to eat their veg!

Look out for locally grown (organic of you can):

  • Yellow/orange vegetables: carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, winter squash
  • Dark green and/or leafy vegetables: kale, broccoli, spinach, collard greens, turnips and their green leaves, beet leaves, mustard and dandelion greens, watercress, cilantro, chicory, endive, escarole
  • Yellow/orange fruits: apricots, cantaloupes, papayas, mangoes, nectarines, peaches
  • Other good vegetable and fruit sources – squash, asparagus, peas, sour cherries, prune plums.

What's the 'go to' hairstyle for Autumn/ Winter 2014?

Normally the LOB (long bob) is one of those styles that you seem to skip past without noticing as you grow out that pixie hair cut and wait for years for your long, flowing Kate Middleton locks to finally grow in.  This season, however, it's the hairstyle de jour!

Worn by the likes of Kate Mara (House of Cards), Emma Roberts, Camille Belle, Nicole Richie and most recently Kate Middleton's sister, Pippa, this really is a cool little number that can be worn in all colours and shades.  It's effortlessly stylish, can be worn an inch or two under the chin or down to the collar bone, and is a great way to freshen up over processed, dry ends.  Even Jennifer Anniston have recently gone for the chop - because she's worth it...

Why it works:  It doesn't have to be perfect, works with straight, wavy or curly hair and worn a bit longer enough can also be flexible enough to wear up .... what's not to love?

What's Your Favourite MATRIX Product?

What's your favourite MATRIX hair styling product?

We asked around the salon and one of our faves is the Hydra Seal Leave In Cream.

Why?  Well, used on wet hair, it gives a great blow waved finish, adding moisture and shine.  Used on dried hair, it can smooth those frizzy twiddly bits (you know the ones ... they stick up straight out of your parting or, if you'e starting to go grey they can turn a bit wavy and look like a question mark!).  It's also great if you've been having lots of highlights; this works well in conjunction with a strengthening shampoo and conditioner to keep your hair in tip top condition.

Kids:  We recommend this for girls who love long hair but hate looking after it.  Keep a bottle of this in your bathroom and encourage your daughters to pop throughout the last 2/3s of their hair when they get out of the shower - brush and leave to dry.  It works wonders, even on scorched, salt tangled hair.  You'll have them looking like a princess in no time!

School:  If your daughter has long hair and wears it up for school, get her to brush a small amount of this through before popping it in a pony tail and it will look neat and tidy as she heads off to school (unfortunately we can't guarantee what state the hair will be in at the end of the day ... but at least you know they've started out groomed!!)  :)

Why not give it a try?  Next time you're in the salon, ask one of the team for a test.
